Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Reviews

Consumer Magazine just published their latest research on the Ionic Breeze and states "The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Professional with OzoneGuard does little to clean the air. The Consumer Reports' authors conclude, after performing tests, that they "wouldn't recommend an ozone generator even as a last resort." and "NOT RECOMMENDED These were poor at cleaning, and some exceeded the UL ozone standard".

Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Test Results - The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifier was the worst performing unit we tested, as it only removed 30% of the particles (see chart below). We even tested this unit beyond our standard 20 minute duration and extended it for an entire day and the unit still didn't remove any significant particles from the room. We did not see a layer of dust on the electrostatic plates even after a week.

Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Test Results - The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifier was one of the worst performing unit of those that we tested, in that it removed 30% of the particles in the room (see chart above). This is similar to the Friedrich C-90A electrostatic plate technology, where air passes through the negative charged electrostatic plates that attract opposite charged particles. These electrostatic plates create a chemical called ozone which is harmful to the body. The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifier had the same issue as the Friedrich C-90A where at higher speeds, fewer particles were being trapped in the electrostatic plates. The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifier unit emits some ozone which has a detectable odor and one of our employees complained of a headache when the unit was operating.
